HFK April Holiday Children’s Program

April has been a truly special month for Holistic Families Kenya as we hosted our first Holiday Children’s Program, vibrant, heartwarming initiative that brought together children, volunteers, and community members for two unforgettable Saturdays on the 11th and 18th. It was held at Gachororo Primary School play ground in Juja.

From the moment the children arrived, the atmosphere was filled with excitement, laughter, and curiosity. These were safe, joyful spaces where children could learn, play, and simply be children.

11th April

Our first session held on April 11th, kicked off beautifully, thanks to the incredible support from our members and volunteers. We hosted a total number of 158 children from age 3 to 17. The day was filled with;

  • engaging activities (Football, Volleyball, Chess and Face Painting)
  • interactive learning (A talk on Children's Rights and Referral Pathways)
  • and fun games that encouraged creativity, teamwork, and self-expression.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed their time, energy, and resources to make this day a success. Moments like these truly remind us of the power of community and collaboration.

18th April

The momentum continued on April 18th, with even more children; 217 in number, joining the program. The energy was higher, the smiles were wider, and the impact was even more visible. Children built confidence, formed new friendships, and embraced every activity with enthusiasm.

The day was centered around a warm and creative art theme. We had an engaging and thoughtful session on drug and substance abuse, made even more impactful by a moving dramatization performed by one of the children for the group. The children also took part in a variety of art-based activities, including

  • Coloring
  • Creating “My Future” cards
  • Bead-making
  • Face painting
  • and a collaborative canvas group activity that encouraged teamwork and self-expression.

The turnout was incredible showing just how great the need and opportunity is within our community.

25th April

As we planned for the final session on April 25th, we faced an important reality. While our desire is to reach as many children as possible, we are equally committed to ensuring their safety, proper supervision, and meaningful engagement.

With over 200 children expected and limited volunteer availability, we made the difficult but necessary decision to not proceed with the April 25th program in its current form. This decision reflects our commitment to providing quality care and a safe environment for every child we serve.

Why Your Support Matters

These two Saturdays have shown us what is possible when a community comes together. They have also highlighted the growing need for more hands, more resources, and continued support.

We warmly invite you to be part of this journey through volunteering, partnerships, or donations. Your involvement helps us create safe, impactful, and sustainable programs for children who need them most.

To everyone who has walked with us so far: thank you. Your support is felt in every smile, every lesson, and every moment of hope created through this program. Let’s continue making a difference together.
